RECAP: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018): J. A. Bayona

The massive, unforeseen world-beating Jurassic World success story begged a sequel. The sequel was coming no matter what, really, because CGI dinosaurs are great global business, whether at the movies or in the movies, but fourth all-time worldwide (when released)? Who saw that coming?

Numbers aside, I didn’t like Jurassic World, and I wasn’t excited for a sequel. How did it hold up?

ONE SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: With the dinosaur survivors of the Jurassic World disaster at death’s door thanks to the rumbling volcano comprising much of Isla Nublar, several human forces converge to save the dinosaurs, but for different reasons.  Continue Reading

RECAP: Jurassic Park III

Jurassic Park III (2001): Joe Johnston

Only eight years after one of the most successful movies of all time, most of its stars seemed as if they didn’t want to appear in the series again. Sam Neill is the lone star of Jurassic Park to reprise a large role in the third movie (although Laura Dern makes a cameo).

Perhaps everyone expected Jurassic Park III to be a stinker. While not on Spielberg’s level, the third Park movie strips away the fat for a thrill-a-minute dinosaur hunt with bigger, badder, and bigger and badder dinosaurs.

ONE SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: A boy crashes onto a dinosaur island and his parents trick a famous paleontologist into helping find him.  Continue Reading

RECAP: The Lost World: Jurassic Park

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997): Steven Spielberg

Four years since the events of Jurassic Park, the world does not know what happened on Isla Nublar. The beans were spilled, but the public doesn’t believe in said beans.

ONE SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: Dr. Ian Malcolm tried to get out, but the dinosaurs pull him back in, plus his girlfriend and daughter, and the people of San Diego.  dating site fish in the sea

Jurassic Park (1993): Steven Spielberg

Once in a blue moon, actually much rarer than that, a movie comes along and rampages through the American landscape, a film engineered to terrorize and delight, which evolves moviemaking forever. Jurassic Park was one such movie.

Michael Crichton’s most famous novel was his most popular, and if such things were possible I’d tell you it sold best, too. But publishers withhold such information like they’re nuclear launch codes, so unless radioactive warheads start falling around us, I’ll just say it and we’ll assume it’s true.

ONE-SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: Dinosaurs rule the Earth again, and chomp on humans.  vegetarian dating online

RECAP: Jurassic World

Jurassic World (2015): Colin Trevorrow

Ah, remember the 90s? A decade when Steven Spielberg wowed us with a Michael Crichton story about dinosaurs; a chaos doctor; and some geneticists who, doggone it, just wanted to make kids smile?

Sure you do. Jurassic Park is a classic popcorn movie, and in 2015 we finally got a sequel. Yes, Jurassic World IS the sequel to Jurassic Park. Say it again: Jurassic World is the sequel to Jurassic Park. One more time: Jurassic World is the sequel to Jurassic Park.

ONE SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: Crazy scientists and investors make a crazy-dangerous dinosaur that goes on a crazy rampage through the crazy-expensive Jurassic World theme park. Continue Reading
