RECAP: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017): Rian Johnson

If it’s December it must be Star Wars season. When we last left our heroes, they were fleeing the First Order, having blown up an entire planet, because if they didn’t the First Order would blow up planets. Rey fled to find Luke Skywalker and her lineage. Leia’s doing leadership. Poe is being a pissy jerk.

ONE SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: Rey trains with the last Jedi, while her friends, all that remains of the Resistance, flee the First Order and its Supreme Leader.  Continue Reading

RECAP: Star Wars

Star Wars (1977): George Lucas

From the childhood fantasies of George Lucas came a draft of silly space fantasy called The Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Starkiller. Wow. Let’s be glad that he turned that into the simple Star Wars.

What began as a reject film from several studios, including the same Disney that would buy the franchise for $4 billion decades later, became, arguably, the most famous movie ever made.

I haven’t read the books, watched the cartoons, or memorized Wookiepedia, so when I write things like “We don’t know…” or “No one has seen…”, bear in mind that you might know, because you know everything about the Star Wars galaxy, but I’m only talking about Episodes I-VII.

ONE SENTENCE PLOT SUMMARY: With Luke Skywalker missing, Han Solo and some new friends reluctantly help Leia Organa and other Resistance fighters raze a spherical planet-destroying weapon wielded by the First Order, and if that sounds like a movie you’ve seen before, it’s not, OK? Continue Reading
